The ingredients needed to make Basic Chai:
  1. Prepare Black tea
  2. Take Ginger
  3. Prepare Green cardamom
  4. Take Milk
  5. Prepare Sugar
Instructions to make Basic Chai:
  1. Boil water in a pot. I prefer to use non-stick.
  2. Bruise your ginger in a mortal & pestle.
  3. Bruise your cardamom pods until the seeds are revealed. I use 5-6 pods.
  4. Dump & boil for 3-4 mins or your desired spice-level. I like the tingling effect from the ginger, so sometimes I’ll steep this a bit longer.
  5. Add in the tea! I use this brand; a very popular brand for chai in Britain. Boil for 1-2 mins. Remove.
  6. Pour in the milk. I used 1/2 cup whole milk.
  7. While still boiling at high heat, let this rise and fall 3 times. I don’t know why they did this specifically for 3 times - I guess to froth up the milk? Anyone know why?? Idk. I just kept the tradition.
  8. Here’s a trick I use: once it reaches the top of the pot, blow on it and it will fall to the bottom. Alternatively, you can turn down the heat, then turn back up.
  9. Strain
  10. Enjoy with a spoon full of sugar :)
