The ingredients needed to make Matar paneer:
  1. Take 1 cup fresh green peas
  2. Prepare 1 /2 -3/4 cup paneer pieces

  7. Get 2 green chillies
  8. Take 1 " ginger
  9. Make ready 6-8 cloves garlic minced

  13. Take 1 tbsp dhania jeera powder

  17. Make ready 2 small bay leaves
  18. Get 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  19. Make ready 1 tsp red chilli powder
  20. Get to taste Salt
  21. Make ready 1/2 tsp sugar (to add during boiling green peas)
  22. Make ready leaves Finely chopped fresh coriander

Here is a simple matar paneer recipe punjabi style. Matar paneer is a regular dish in Punjabi households. It is ubiquitious dish and goes very well rice, puri and rice. Heat the oil in a frying pan over high heat until it's shimmering hot.

Steps to make Matar paneer:
  1. Boil fresh green peas with sugar & salt till tender. Strain and keep aside.
  2. On another gas flame,In kadhai add heat 2 tsp oil. Add chopped onion,ginger, chillies, garlic saute for few minutes.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes,dry chillies, cinnamon stick, dhania jeera powder,mix and saute until tomato pieces are tender.
  4. Cool this sauted vegetables and grind it in mixer to make smooth paste.
  5. In same kadhai add & heat 2 tbsp oil, add cummin seeds and bay leaves. As cummin seeds splutter,add grinded Onion Tomato paste. Mix well and saute till oil leaves from the mixture.
  6. Add turmeric powder,red chilli powder salt. Mix well. Add boiled peas and cook for 2 minutes.
  7. Add paneer cubes (you can fry and add). Mix gently. Add 3/4- 1 cup of water. Simmer for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  8. Serve /Relish Matar-Paneer with Roti/ Paratha/ Naan.

Add the paneer, then turn the heat down a little. Matar paneer has paneer and matar/ green peas as main ingredients. I tried this recipe after I tasted this at my friend Sangeeta's place. Loved it very much and asked her the recipe for it. Matar paneer is a delicious curry made of paneer cubes and fresh peas cooked in a rich, spicy and tangy gravy.
